Sheep's fescue

The fine green matrix everything else grows through.

Wild Grasses Meadow

The green matrix

A meadow isn't flowers on dirt — it's flowers in grass. Sheep's fescue is the fine, low, drought-tolerant grass that gives the whole thing its structure without swamping the flowers.

Specs

type fine grass, native
height 15–40 cm
flower (none — it's the frame)
soil dry, poor
seed 2 g / m² in a mix

Why we sow it

Fertile soil grows coarse rye that smothers everything. Fescue is the polite grass — it sits low, opens up gaps, and lets the flowers do the talking.
